This work will attempt to explain the economic logic that governed the last year of the Currency Board Plan in Argentina; it tries to provide a framework of intelligibility to the desperate measures taken by the Alliance government throughout 2001 by focusing on the three suffered bank runs during that year (March, July and November), which were the direct cause of the establishment of the “corralito” on the end of the year. To do this we will describe the delicate economic situation the country went through by the beginning of 2001. Then we’ll go over the first two bank runs alongside the actions and plans of the Alliance government, to finally settle at the establishment of the “corralito”, the bid with the banks and the overwhelming end of the convertibility.
