Tercera Jornada “Ing. Agr. Horacio Giberti”. Cuestiones y perspectivas de la pequeña producción. Parte II

In the debate an analysis was carried out of the social, economical and regional importance of the country's small production, as well as its possibilities and and perspectives for the immediate future. In the first debate board the regions of the Argentine north-west and north-east were examined and in the second debate board the Pampa region was examined. According to estimations derived from the 2002 National Agricultural Census, smaller agricultural operations make up for 65.5% of the country's cultivations total, they occupy 13.5% of the surface and generate 19.3% of the gross production value (calculated upon average performance). This whole is far from being homogeneous as to its level of capital, the characteristics of the labor force employed, the types of production they develop. It is not homogenous either in its distribution and importance in the different regions and provinces. Different territorial areas were taken on (north-east/north-west and Pampa region) with the aim of including a broad set of situations including fundamental concepts such as earth and environment, agrarian structures, market-placement issues; bringing assessments up to date and debating proposals to improve the perspectives of small agricultural production in Argentina.
